Apr. 13th, 2012 @ 03:01 am "Obama says Air Force One travel is 'not my choice'’ in sharp exchange"

The story is from an interview President Obama gave to Larry Conners, anchorman at KMOV-TV, the CBS affiliate here in St. Louis. Mr. Conners has had a long career (over twenty-five years) in local television journalism; before this he worked at then-ABC affiliate KTVI, and before that he was best known as one of the reporters who busted the Chicken Ranch brothel, the story which became the movie The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Mr. Connors has always been a politically conservative newsman, a trait he mostly keeps quiet but which occasionally bursts out as it did this evening. He did a series of promos for his "exclusive" interview, where he asked no questions you wouldn't find on the Fox News Channel, including a gripe about Presidential vacations which ignored the vastly greater number and length of trips to Crawford Ranch by George W. Bush.

What really got me was the amazing way he channeled the late Ted Knight's character Ted Baxter from The Mary Tyler Moore Show. For a newsman as experienced as he, he simply had no idea of how he appeared on the screen as he trumpeted his two-question interview. I haven't seen so many Ted Baxterisms since the late George Putnam served as Mr. Knight's model for a pompous, loud newsman. I kept thinking of the episode in which Baxter got temporary White House credentials and practiced his revealing, hard-hitting questions such as "Mr. Secretary of State, do you sleep in the nude?"

Mr. Conners' exchange with the President was not sharp, it was a waste of the most coveted item in Washington, time with the President. (Witness the story on The West Wing in which the Domestic Policy Adviser, Toby Ziegler, had to ask for the first two minutes available in President Bartlet's schedule.)

I have never been more ashamed of a local reporter, particularly a man with enough lifetime career experience to know better.

Dec. 15th, 2011 @ 09:14 pm Spas
I want to get a gift certificate to a spa as a Christmas present for someone. She's never been to a spa, so she doesn't have any preferences.

Does anyone have any recommendations for Spas (offering massages, facials, mani/pedi services, etc.) in the greater St. Louis area? MO side of the river and somewhere in the south city/south county/U city/clayton areas preferred.

Has anyone been down to Occupy St Louis?  Anyone planning on going down?
Anyone alive out there and just want to share their thoughts in general about the protests?  (Dead people, feel free to chime in too)

Sep. 1st, 2011 @ 11:38 pm Dreadlocks
I have them on my head. I would love to find a dirty hippie or similar person that can help me with maintenance. Mine are a year old and I have about 6 inches of growth...lots of loose hairs that need to be sewn in...I would love to trade services-I'm a pretty good baker and can make an awesome homemade cake (not any nasty box or american buttercream-a real European style cake) or some other 'baked' good or meal.

Help?!

Aug. 11th, 2011 @ 02:27 pm Red Nissan Altima
I need to sell this gorgeous red 2008 Nissan Altima.
http://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/2541810571.html

See the ad for photos.

It has 90,000 miles on it but still drives nicely. One of the tires is showing steel, the others are worn. It will need new tires to pass MO inspection, but otherwise should be fine (passed in April.)

We're only asking $10K for it, similar ones go for closer to $18K.

Contact me through LJ message or respond to the Craigslist ad.

We need to empty our garage in order to do some work to meet an inspection deadline...so everything is going. furniture (dressers, hutch, headboard, bedrails, diaper champ, girls bike that needs work, corner computer desk-disassembled, KENWOOD component stereo-works really well(i've been plugging my ipod into it for the last couple of years), a child art desk(one piece plastic-little tykes style) and other stuff I am sure I am forgetting.

Most of the stuff is out on our driveway now, and there will be more computer monitors/components in the morning at 8am.

Address is 1316 Belton Avenue 63119

I can be reached at 314 8274432. I will edit this post when all is gone.

Jul. 19th, 2011 @ 08:50 pm Air duct cleaning?
Can anyone recommend a reputable air vent cleaning service in St Louis city? I've read that there's a bunch of charlatans out there but ours really need cleaning.
TIA!

Jun. 28th, 2011 @ 10:24 pm (no subject)
so this fourth of july I want to see some fireworks without fighting an assload of people. I heard the O'Fallon fair sucks (not much to do besides the show), I'm not hugely interested in the Saint Charles one. I just want to see some fireworks. Is there anywhere in the Saint Peters area that my friends and I can go? I don't care if sitting on the side of the road provides a good show, that's good enough for me.

Thanks!

Does anybody know if the Tower Grove Market still going on this morning, or have things been kind of changed around because of Pride Fest this weekend?
